My Portfolio
Thank you for considering my application to study film. I come to this discipline as a self-taught filmmaker, having not studied film at school or college. My interest developed through curiosity and experimentation, and when I learned that a portfolio was required, I decided to create three short films specifically for my portfolio. I approached the task as an opportunity to challenge myself across the entire filmmaking process.
My portfolio is organised around the pre-production, production and the post-production phases for each of my short films. In each section, I outline my creative choices, the obstacles I encountered, and the lessons that shaped my understanding of how to make a film. This structure reflects the way I have been teaching myself: by breaking down each stage, analysing what worked and what did not, and continually refining my approach with each film that I made.
The film I have selected as my five-minute submission is The Gentlemen’s Brewing Collective, a mockumentary about a group of middle-aged men escaping to their small brewery in a garden shed. Although humorous in tone, the project was a deliberate exercise in character-driven storytelling, observational camerawork and creating a convincing documentary style narrative flow.
Making these films confirmed that this is what I want to do with my life. I want to study film to build a stronger technical foundation, broaden my creative range, and collaborate with others who share a love for filmmaking.
